Creata, an American toy brand, in 1982 copyrights 3 dolls wearing long princess gowns, adorned with ribbons and flowers, sporting long flowing hair and living in a fairy tale world. They are the Princess of Flowers dolls: Leeanna, Laurelle e Lisette, two of them with a smiling facemold, the firs one with a closed-lips facemold.
Ceppi-Ratti chooses to license and distribute this one, Leeanna, as Tanya, maybe as she more differs from the ruling toothy-smile Superstar Barbie model.
On the box the Ceppi-Ratti markings appears next to Creata ones and the original graphics is left untouched. Only the “Tanya” logo is applied on the box, palm tree included, lookinf a bit out of place among all those plants, flowers, birds, unicorns, and castles! On first thought you could think that Creata was copying Mattel’s Lady Lovely Locks dolls and characters, but the copyright from Creata dates back to 1982, while Lady Lovely Locks was not produced until 1987! Three maidens, one princess, long flowing hair, ribbons, flowers, even the castle is almost identical in shape, there is even a Prince... If someone was copying, it was not Creata!

Not even Petra escapes this new flower-power fashion! Even if she avoids excess, castles and unicorns, her boxes are somewhat more sober and she demands definitely a higher quality than her American or Italian counterpart, even the serious German doll adopts Leeanna’s face-mold and the new style.
This fact seems to confirm that during the early eighties there were only few factories in China (or Hong Kong, then a British Colony) to design and produce dolls on a large scale. They might have different names and vary consistently in quality, depending on the commercial agreement with the customer, but the face and body mold were always the same.

Who knows, maybe from these same factories came the very cheap hollow plastic “stationery clones”, sold in plastic bags closed by a cardboard tag and whose faces so closely resembled Lily, Barbie and her family or friends, Petra and other dolls.

As a proof of the official joint-venture between Creata and Ceppi-Ratti we find the logo on the box, but also between Tanya and Petra there is an official tie-in. Even if Petra keeps her original Von Plasty markings, Tanja (spelt in the Russian variation with a J, even if the origin of the name is the Latin TAZIA, TAZIANA from Tatius) is now sold as Petra’s Best Friend.
And her name is written with the characteristic palm tree logo!

On the back of the box we can read the names of the six models available :

• Sportiv (Sporty)
